I did alot of research on the available waxed jackets that were available. Of course Filson and Flint and Tinder were at the forefront with the latter being what I was leaning towards. Filson is just too high. Then I discovered Woodroad. Read the reviews, read the product description, and looked at the price. I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did. It's a well constructed jacket and very comfortable. Today in Ohio is 50 degrees and rainy, so I was able to wear this jacket all day. Held up well against the elements and I stayed warm with the soft lining while wearing a tshirt and henley. I strongly suggest sizing up. This is a colder temperature jacket and you will be wearing layers. I'm 6' 210 lbs with a 43" chest and went with the XL. Large is my normal size but this jacket would have been too tight in a large. I look forward to more wears with this jacket.
Eric - thanks for the glowing review! It's because of honest feedback like this that people (like you) can get to try our awesome products. So thanks for leaving word!
Im athletic and usually wear a regular fit small. I like a nice fitted look without the tightness that comes with contemporary slim cuts. Small actually seems to measure around 42 inches if it fits me completely buttoned closed with the exception of the very top button. Shoulders are close to 18 inches as I have somewhat broad shoulders. They fill out perfectly. What I love the most about the jacket is what gives it an edge over brands like flint and tinder and taylor stitch. That is the full ( even in the sleeves) cotton wool blend lining, and a duck fabric that seems much heavier than offered by huckberry or taylor stitch as well. The lining being full cotton wool blend will breathe better than most of the competition without resorting to lighter weight duck fabric in the process and acetate in the sleeves. Im going to enjoy the **** out of wearing this thing. I bought it to replace a similar style in synthetic water resistant fabric that has started leaking at the seams with wear. Your jacket seems alot more durable. I recommend adding more colors like a red/brown rust, black, navy blue, and a light grey in the future. Great product! Just be sure to offer a size xs in the future for smaller guys who want to score one. Maybe 2 inches smaller in chest and 1 inch smaller in shoulders than the small. Im actually a medium size shirt and the small jacket fits me as a trucker should over those medium shirts and flannels.
"I'm going to enjoy the hell out of wearing this thing." Wow - great review, Lemuel! Thanks for being so thorough and for the suggestions. You'll have to tag us in your new gear on social!
Love the subtle color and the buttons and the merino wool liner. The fact that the liner is not red and black like most Filson and plus your liner is a wool blend is a little warmer.
Thanks for your kind words, Bret! We like making products that stand out and meet your needs. You'll have to let us know how the jacket serves you over time.
This jacket exceeded my expectations. This jacket looks and feels great. I wanted a new general purpose jacket that I could wear while working outside or hop on a bike and go for a ride. Bottom line this jacket looks great, feels great, and is plenty warm without being bulky. I would not hesitate recommending the brand to other people. Only recommendation I have is let the jacket air out for a little bit after opening up the packaging. the Ranch hand jacket shipped with a slight odor, likely from the coating on the canvas, after about 20 minutes it was gone.
Tim, we love that you love your new Ranch Hand Jacket! Thanks for your very kind and thorough review.
